DESIGN BY
ALEXANDRE KASPER

He started his career at the age of 16 at CGS Furniture as a young apprentice. Over time, he moved to other sectors, getting to know the complex production process of the factory. He worked with designer Alex dos Santos, where he learned CNC programming and the productive and creative process of a product. The creation always called his attention since he was a child, fascinated by architecture and furniture design; he studied architecture to improve his knowledge. He has already collected some national and international awards in the segment, such as the Brasil Design Award, MCB, and A’Design Award. He seeks to concentrate the balance in the contextualization of a product, being visually attractive and ergonomically functional. His main sources of inspiration come from nature and Brazilian architecture.

ABOUT PRODUCT

It was inspired by the iconic arches of Lapa, which in the XVIII century were of extreme importance for the water supply and today act as a viaduct for the cable cars, which connect the neighborhood of Santa Teresa to the Center. The structural beauty of the arches was represented in the armchair through the curves present in the backrest, which with their different sizes, represent the major (upper) and minor (lower) arches. Following the backrest, the arm of the armchair transmits the lightness felt when the cable car passes over the arches. The seat was designed following the radius of the backrest and was upholstered to provide comfort to the user. The structure, made of wood, was designed with thicker lines to represent the robustness of the arches.

DESIGN BY
FABÍOLA BERGAMO

Creating for me is an overflow of experiences. In each piece I create, there is a combination of references and inspirations from various sources. They are fragments of a repertoire formed by trips, readings, exhibitions, experiments. I came into contact with the universe of furniture design during the period I spent in Milan, 1986 to 1991, first at the Domus Academy’s master’s degree, and then at the offices I worked at. My trajectory as a designer is marked by the search for a pluralist experience in relation to design, working on several fronts, from consulting to craft communities (since 1996) to design for industry, from exhibition ambiance and curatorship to theater scenery and costumes, from furniture, lighting and object design to jewelry and handbags design. Each area brings different contributions, broadens the view, and opens new possibilities. I always say that I don’t do design, I am a designer, design for me is a way of seeing the world, perceiving potentialities and difficulties and contributing improvements to the world and people. Since 2015 I’m part of the institute The City Needs You, developing projects that think solutions for a fairer city through urban interventions and co-creation with communities.
